EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In 2002, the idea of publishing the “PUB” was formed. The concept was to produce a magazine “of the students, by the students, for the students” commercially. The idea of putting up our own publishing machinery was agreed upon to be an effective way to reach a wider readership.
The planned purpose of this project, was to provide the youth a reading material that is entertaining yet provides relevant information and comes out an affordable price.
But the idea was frozen then, due to lack of fundings and much needed attention.
Now, the same concept is being formulated again, through a year-long building of Spoliarium Publications, through a “coop-style” program designed to generate capital from different sources. This will include outside investors and shares of owner-members that will give the company better management and gain hands-on control of the operations.
Mission Statement
To provide the youth with a highly-informative, yet entertaining reading alternative at a reasonable price.
Realizing the need of educating our youth through reading, the group will emphasize on nation-building, gearing towards social development.
Background
For many years, the youth of this particular region is exposed to a limited source of information. Most magazines/books available now, that they can purchase are:
Song Magazines: affordable, but “empty”
Comic Books/Manga: expensive/limited
Pop culture/Trend Mags: (PULP,FHM,Fashion Mags) are expensive in general.
Books (Fiction/Non Fiction) expensive
Most are either expensive or empty, and mostly set in English.
At Spoliarium, we publish not just the wants, but also the needs of our younger generation. Cavite students (high school/colleges) will be the first to avail of our service, in a bid to be “catalysts for change” in this great province.
We will ask them what they want.
We will consult experts what they need.
Investigate other matters that affect them.
And then we create a paper designed to enlighten, entertain, empower, educate, inspire & strengthen the Caviteño youth.
PRESENT SITUATION
Although the current publishing trend has evolved significantly, the market has remained a challenge, even to those ahead of the pack.
Recent technological advancements has allowed new players to compete with the old publishers, via small but efficient resources. Although the industry is already in its mature stage, offering a variety of product to every target reader available, newer & fresher competition can still find its place to provide a healthy balance.
There are certain factors that could give new players such as our own, advantage over our older competitors. These are as follows:
1. Lowest price possible. The company will be ready to provide the most affordable source of information/ entertainment to the readers.
2. Content. The quality of the articles to be published shall be ensured of careful treatment so as to give readers the most relevant piece of reading material.
Future promotional activities, involving the campuses throughout Cavite, are also geared to contribute to the growth of our product.
The main office will be located in Cavite. This station will serve as the central production unit for the magazines.
The magazine shall be published monthly, therefore an issue has shelf-life of about 3-4 months. Its cover price shall be the lowest in the market so as to give access to every possible costumer/reader.
OBJECTIVES
While we’re keeping our sights on covering the entire nation, to be the premiere multi-media company in the land, we will start small, slow but sure.
Additional capital acquired from outside sources shall be used to hire key personnel and staff, expand our marketing, and purchase other equipments.
At present, the main objective is to generate capital, while doing extensive background, on-line promotion and establishing the organization.
To accomplish this goal, we have developed a comprehensive plan to generate our capital, through investments by members and financial institutions.
Shares will be awarded to members/investors at P2,000.00 per share.
By April 2006, we have collected at least P200,000.00 as capital, which shall be used accordingly for the production, executive and promotion expenses for the first issues.
June 2006, will jump-start extensive marketing, promotion, and sales.
PRODUCT/SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Spoliarium Advance Media will be publishing a youth-based magazine on a (monthly-quarterly) basis. It shall include articles written by our youth, or written for the youth. It shall contain only to the most relevant articles aimed to entertain, empower, educate, and inspire our young Caviteño reader. The magazine will sport a hip and dynamic lay-out on black and white but glossy pages.
Advertisers will be welcomed as part of our revenue resource.
The magazine will then be reasonably priced, setting it apart from the competition. We will also encourage interactive participation with our readers by giving them a venue for their opinion.
MARKET ANALYSIS
The Caviteño youth, as a market, has been exposed to a variety of reading materials. Recently, more publishers are offering the general market, different types of magazines suited to a specific genre. A certain magazine, in particular, has come up with a scheme of condensing relevant articles from previously published material.
The Reader’s Digest has been successful in pioneering this idea, that has been thoroughly being used by local magazines and tabloids.
The Post-Production months will be devoted in focusing on sources of advertising and promotion, public awareness and public acceptance.
EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES
The top priority of the group, after securing capital, is to acquire an office. This office shall be strategically located most accessible to partners of the business.
We would then purchase computers & other equipments needed for the operation. Twenty percent of the total of the initial capital shall be allocated for equipments and facilities.
Additional fundings, shall also be allocated for further advancements in the future.
MANAGEMENT
